Notebook-Art : My classroom hobby

I don't know why, but I have always been a human face observer, face lover since I was a child. I love observing people's faces, their facial features. (Now, don't be cautious when I meet you. Don't worry! I am not a psychopath who will stare at you to observe your face). I don't do it deliberately, its just an inherent habit of mine. It just happens, say like it happens as easily as we breath, effortlessly.

I always loved sketching human faces (needless to mention that most of those are the faces of females with nice facial features) and that is one of the reasons behind this habit of observation. I am not a professional artist (Though, I have been able to shine in painting competitions till the state level. But then, I never took any professional training as such) , but I love sketching. Right since my school-years I have been quite consistent turning every class notebook, partly into a sketchbook :). Usually, every notebook would start getting filled with the class matter starting with the first page and with the most discussed sketches from the last page. Then the sketches used to meet the class notes somewhere near the page 150 on a 200 pages notebook. (Thats not a bad ratio 150 : 50 for Notes : Sketches :D). These sketches usually used to be really untidily made, but certainly a decent piece of art from my side. Well, I termed this form of sketching as 'The Notebook Art'. Hahaha ..... that certainly adds a sort of respect to the foolish activity I used to do :D.

Now, even when I am doing my Master's in Computer Science, I haven't still got over this notebook-art habit of sketching at wrong places at wrong time. In fact, I never tried to get over it, as it has its own merits too. The most recent occasion when I did this, was on Wednesay last week. While in myresearch group meeting, I made a sketch of a person looking somewhat similar to Abraham Lincoln and got the appreciation from my advisor professor at the end of the meeting.

Sometimes, I used to sketch, with a particular person in my mind or most of the times the face in the sketch used to be a result of some random imaginary impulses. At times, I even had the professor sketched on my paper while he is busy teaching a lots of interesting things. (Actually I got one such sketch acknowledged and signed by the professor himself :D. That was a brave act from my side). Also, don't misinterpret this as my insincerity, I can concentrate on the matter that is being discussed in the class equally well when I have this sketching mania going on at the same time. (That might sound to be a little overconfident statement. Excuse me about that :D). In fact, I would recommend kids drawing such sketches (just kidding). But on a serious note, these sketches at times, do help to remember even the minutest of the things that were being discussed in the class. I have experienced this amazing effect numerous times. I could remember the matter the professor was discussing exactly while I was busy making some pen strokes to make the person in the sketch look better.

Lately, while browsing through some class notes I came across one of such several black-ball pen Notebook Art works which made me write this post for this rarely updated blog. :(

An special note for Recruiters and Hiring Managers: Please do not change your decision of contacting me after reading this post. I am reliable enough to prevent myself from doing such notebook-art exercises in professional environment. :D
